Faces of Wales




Faces of Wales is a research project that aims to highlight the written stories and oral histories of local heroes in Welsh communities. This online exhibition displays a collection of mini biographical accounts of individuals of Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds from across Wales to share their experiences and celebrate their rich contributions to Welsh life, culture and communities.

  Essi Ahari – Chief Inspector, North Wales Police, Felinheli Essi Ahari was born and raised in Iran. He came to Wales to further his education and studied in Bangor University, where he obtained a PHD in Biology. He settled in Felinheli in North Wales with his wife and has had two children who have grown up in Wales. John Raghoobar - Mayor of Dolgellau, North Wales

  John Raghoobar - Mayor of Dolgellau, North Wales “ I was wearing a black suit and white shoes. It was quite something in those days! I remember it was snowing when I arrived. I had never seen snow before” - John Paul Raghoobar,  John Paul Raghoobar is from Sangre Grande in Trinidad. He came to Britain in 1963 alone by plane at just thirteen years old. He has fond memories of his childhood in Trinidad and thought it was a wonderful place to grow up. He was sent to Britain by members of his family to join his older brother in London to further his education in the hopes that he would have a prosperous future in the UK.
